Thanks to the new version of CrosswordButler (currently in beta release), I'm pleased to welcome Frank Longo's Sunday King Features Syndicate Premier puzzle to my solving lineup!

Thanks for pointing out Frank's syndicated puzzle, Dan! I missed that it was now a Butler option. My local newspaper runs this on Sundays (solving on newsprint, ew, but one does what one must), with "Average solving time" next to it, usually 61-68 min. So precise, and so little variation! I envision Frank throwing dice with only those #s on it.

On Longo's Sunday Puzzle (08-29-10), just exactly what is the theme clue?

Anon - There doesn't appear to be any theme "revealer" clue (or title, for that matter). Just the nine theme entries with those added letters...

Anne - My dad enjoys doing Longo's puzzle in the SF Chronicle, and surely in way less than an hour... I don't remember seeing the "average time" in that paper. Funny!

Joon - OK, this is getting spooky.

well, what's less spooky is that i took 2.5 dans to solve BEW #2. oh man, he slayed me. plopping down ATREIDES and DUNE for the two xrefed sci-fi answers didn't help.
