Going away for the weekend - it's my birthday tomorrow! - and likely won't be posting Sat/Sun/Mon times before Monday. I don't even think I'm bringing my laptop.
Meanwhile, I finally joined the NPL, where my cutesy nickname shall be "Delayer". It's a shorter version of the incredibly apt anagram discovered by my friend Pete: Fine Delayer.

Welcome to the Krewe! I just recently joined myself. (I'm "Kudzu")
... and happy birthday!
Happy birthday, Dan!
happy birthday! you've got the same birthday as my goddaughter, but something like 26 years earlier.
DELAYER seems like the kind of word rex would complain about when somebody used it as part of a 56-word fill. but hey, rhyming is cutesy.
unexpected side effect of dan leaving for the weekend: i might "win" the NYT puzzle, which i don't believe has ever happened. i've often been 2nd behind dan on early-week puzzles, at least among times that i could find posted (i generally assume i'm not faster than trip or tyler or francis or anne). no guarantees, but so far i'm a minute ahead of doug and amy and a few seconds ahead of byron. but it's still very early... howard, stella, and numerous other faster solvers than myself have yet to post times. how exciting!
You're faster than me sometimes, joon! Sometimes I beat everyone who posts (this past Fri and Sat, for example), and someimtes I beat pretty much no one (this past Thurs, where I was positively glacial). I don't post times because if it's the former I feel like I'm bragging, and if it's the latter I'm too embarrassed. :-) I also assume I pretty much never beat people like Tyler, Trip, Francis, though, who rarely post times.
Anne E., who really should join NPL too
PS. Happy birthday Dan! (whom I may not have beaten on Sat since you haven't posted your time yet...)
anne, you must be beating trip/tyler/francis a decent fraction of the time, because you were the fastest solver in the entire field at ACPT, no? all of you are about as fast as dan, and dan is pretty much always faster than me. that's why i generally assume that your unseen times are faster than mine.
Er... no. I wish, but no!
I commented earlier this afternoon, but apparently it didn't work. Thanks for the happy birthdays!
Anne, you should totally post times at Amy's blog, I'm sure Al would love to have a paper peer on the board...
Joon, iirc it was Howard two minutes ahead of the field, Anne one minute ahead.
oh, she was only one minute ahead of trip/francis/tyler/dan? geez, no wonder her times are so slow... :)
