That's excellent, guys. I'm pretty sure my fastest, both for new Newsday and old Monday NYT, is 1:43. Definitely have never hit 1:40 on paper. David Plotkin, fastest solver in recorded history?
Note that I solved the Mon/Tue Newsday puzzles last (instead of first, as is my usual practice), so I was *really* warmed up. Putting a photo on Facebook...
I have never, ever, ever broken about 1:45 on paper, and that was when I was trying for speed on paper, which I no longer do. That was my absolute zero, speed-of-light scientifically possible physical limit with no mistakes or hesitation.
To use proper grammar, youse peoples am scary :). Awesome.
that's the fastest i've ever done any puzzle on paper.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive!
ReplyDeleteLikewise.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are all animals!
ReplyDeleteAnd you still beat my fastest keyboard time by ten seconds. Jeez Louise. :-O

ReplyDeleteOops, I want to point out that my fastest keyboard solve of 2:48 (or was it 2:46?) was on a Newsday, not a New York Times.
ReplyDeletedan, definitely print out that monday newsday. it's a burner.
ReplyDeleteAll right, you've shamed me into giving it a shot. But first I have to crack this MGWCC meta... :)
ReplyDeleteDidn't get the meta, but I did break the record.

Dan,
ReplyDeleteDo you usually save the day's NYT for last when you are "scorchingly" warmed up?
Yes indeed... I generally like to solve in increasing order of difficulty, so I'll save Fireball and Post Puzzler for last on those days.
